Botox: everything you need to know before you start

Botox, what is it?

We are talking about more and more botox, also called botulinum toxin. It is made from a bacteria called Clostridium botulinum and is used in aesthetic medicine because it can treat expression lines, especially those between the eyebrows (the famous lion's wrinkle), at the outer corners of the eyes and on the forehead. Indeed, it is not recommended to make injections on the lower part of the face. Because of its ability to loosen the tissuesBotox can change the shape of the face and distort the contours of the mouth. Some exceptions are made to target neck wrinkles and the folds of bitterness around lips.

What is the botox injection technique?

It is usually around 40 years old that one can start botox. What happens during a session ? The injection is very fast and practiced without anesthesia but it is painless because performed with an extremely fine needle. The doctor targets the muscle and the wrinkled to suppress muscle contraction. In the first year, it is recommended to give one injection per trimester in order to contract the muscle fibers. In subsequent years, only 2 to 3 injections are enough.

Is botox dangerous?

The result is visible only hours after the session. But you have to wait two weeks to see the final result. Much less risky than surgical interventionsBotox injections, however, have some contraindications. In particular, they are not recommended for pregnant women and people undergoing specific medical treatment.

One of the dangers lies essentially in the realization of the injections. For example, if you do it on the front and around the lion's wrinkle, it is common to see "the Mephisto effect" (the eyebrows in M). It is therefore necessary to make a small editing. But sometimes, there is a drop of the upper eyelids related to an injection too low. Ditto around the mouth: if the practitioner stings in the wrong place, the corners of the lips may sag. In these cases, it is not possible to cancel and go back. Must wait several months before the effect of botox dissipates.
