Hair straightener: how to choose it?

Points to watch out for

The composition
Choose ceramic coverings that slide easily over lengths, without snagging, and make hair very shiny after each use.

The width
The fine straightening irons make it possible to style a bangs, small locks at the front of the face or short hair. Larger models are more suitable for those with long, thick or curly hair.

Technology
Some straighteners have a steam function, for smooth and soft smoothing. Others have small pins, which allow to disentangle the wick before smoothing it. Also be attentive to the shape of the plates : If their edges are rounded, you can also make ripples with your device.

Temperature
If you have curly, thick or unruly hair, choose a straightener whose heat can be adjusted up to 200 ° C or 230 ° C. If you have thin, fragile or colored hair, prefer a unique temperature of about 180 ° C.

Use it well

Dry your hair perfectly then apply a thermoprotective spray. Once the hair iron is warm, pass the plates from the root to the ends with a slow motion. Limit yourself to two passes maximum per strand. For ease, always smooth your hair starting from below.

The good gesture

To avoid getting a "baguette effect", smooth the hair by rounding the tips slightly inwards.
