Prolapse: the solutions against the descent of organ

This gynecological disease corresponds to the abnormal collapse of one of the organs of the pelvis (uterus, bladder, rectum), or sometimes, at its partial release via the vagina or rectum. Normally, the pelvic floor is supposed to maintain them but difficult deliveries, chronic constipation, menopause or even some sports activities like running, can lead to a loss of tone of the perineum. The descent of organs is a source of major discomfort: ball sensation in the vagina which is accompanied by heaviness, pelvic pain but also urinary incontinence or even faecal.

Rehabilitation to slow the evolution

What's this ? Contraction exercises to strengthen the perineum. We proceed either by visualization with the CMP method (knowledge and control of the perineum) or by electrostimulation. Electrical impulses urge the nerves around the perineum and cause muscle twitches that gradually strengthen the pelvic floor.

Why does it work? Set of muscles and membranes, the pelvic floor serves as a support for the organs of the small pelvis (uterus, rectum, bladder). Toning ensures their maintenance and prevents sagging, improves urinary comfort and reduces the sensation of heaviness in the lower abdomen.

How's it going ? This is the treatment to adopt when the prolapse is light. The midwife or physiotherapist can rely on the CMP method of strengthening the pelvic floor by visualizing certain images. For example, one of the exercises consists of visualizing, with closed eyes, the inside of the vagina as a cave with a drawbridge and a portcullis, then to make them rise mentally, slowly blowing through The belly. These exercises, to be reproduced alone at home, thus make it possible to work specific areas. The electrostimulation technique requires placing a probe inside the vagina, which emits low-frequency electrical impulses to "activate" the perineum. The number of sessions depends on the tone of each and the discomfort caused by the prolapse.

A prosthesis to avoid the operation

What's this ? The pessary is shaped like a ring, a cube or a disc that is placed in the vagina. It comes to support the uterus, bladder or rectum. There are different sizes to fit the vaginal cavity. It can be worn punctually or permanently and even during sex (depending on the type of models).

Why does it work? The pessary spontaneously takes a horizontal position in the vagina and its edge is fixed behind the pubis. It thus mechanically keeps the organs descending through the vaginal cavity.

How's it going ? A gynecologist or urologist sets up the device. He also explains how to remove it and replace it alone. A consultation, after one month, makes it possible to verify that it is well adapted to your morphology. Twice a week application of eggs or an estrogen-containing cream may be recommended to prevent the occurrence of loss or injury to the vaginal mucosa.
